Photography
I got back into photography in the last two weeks. After I got my self a new (used) camera from eBay and found the time to take some photos.
Why stop?
I got my first camera a good eight years ago. An OM-D EM 10 MK II that I tested at an Olympus convention and loved there. It was small light and had some nice dials to change the aperture and exposure. Sadly a few months out of warranty a construction oversight rendered the display unusable.
The display has the ability to swivel on the x-axis 90° upwards and 45° downwards. But that seems go put a lot of strain on the flex cable and damaging the solder joints. So no warranty and no repair show I knew who could do the job.
I switched to shooting with my phone. A Huawei Mate 10 and later a Huawei P30 lite which both deliver camera control. But the P30 got so slow when opening the camera that I switched to a digital camera my grandma had used with 10MP that opened faster than my phone. But I lost my aperture and exposure settings.
So it was really just there to document the moment. No regards for positioning lighting or anything else. Just open point and shoot.
Digital Camera
While I missed my options with manual photo setting but, and that's a big but, it is a really nice way to capture the moment. No thoughts about a nice setup, no thoughts about lighting or people looking nice.
You have a way of capturing the moment that you I feel you don't get with the "better", the "professional" camera. Not even with a phone. Simply because they take pictures in to good a quality, and you are too concise about the pictures looking good because you post them online or share them with family or friends right after.
The way I use the camera it is more like point, shoot and continue the moment. After the holiday or event I save the pictures and forget about them until weeks, months, years later when you find them and share/view them. And then you relive the moment with friends and family and can laugh about and reminisce the moment.
New Camera
Despite that you notice that it is not really feasible for taking landscape, portraits or pictures at formal events. The quality suffers more or less, and they don't turn out like you want.
So I got my self a Lumix G9 for 400€ on eBay. And I have to say it is a really nice camera. The device came in top condition no problems whatsoever.
Using it was close to perfect. I realize that I am no pro at all but I have my fun taking pictures and a few turned out nice. So I have my hobby, it gets me out of the house more often in I am looking forward to holidays where I hopefully get to capture new scenes that I don't have in my hometown.
Pictures
Just to show a few pictures I took since I got the new camera.
